Weapons Overview: Roles and Progression
Published · Updated
Weapons in Survive a Million Monkeys progress through tiers during each run. You start with a basic pistol and spend in-match Cash to upgrade through shotguns, burst rifles, and heavy weapons like the Minigun.
In-Match Weapon Progression
- Basic Pistol — your starting sidearm. Effective for early waves but falls off quickly.
- Shotgun — a close-range upgrade with pellet spread. Good for dealing with dense groups.
- Burst Rifle — a mid-range rifle that fires in controlled bursts.
- Minigun — a sustained crowd-clearing heavy weapon. Community guides recommend saving cash for this once you can survive longer.
Bundle Weapons
Some weapons are available through store bundles rather than in-match progression:
- T1 Shorty — included in the Starter Pack.
- Dead Man's Hand — a revolver included in the Gunslinger Bundle.
- Deagle, P90, SCAR, and Grenade Launcher — all included in Dimitri's Bundle.
Upgrading Between Waves
Press V to upgrade your weapon during a run. Each upgrade raises your weapon tier by one. The cost is paid in in-match Cash and increases with each tier.
Tips
- Shotgun is a strong early upgrade for close-range encounters.
- Save for the Minigun once you can survive past wave 5 consistently.
- Grenade (press G) is a reliable panic button for clearing surrounded positions.
- Bundle weapons give a head start but are not required to progress.
